APL Logistics Chooses OptiSITE® Distribution Planning Model for Quick, High-Level Site Location Analysis

ARLINGTON, VA - November 14, 2001 - APL Logistics, a leading global supply chain management services provider, has upgraded to the new Windows version of OptiSITE® Distribution Planning and Site Location Model after many years of satisfaction with its quick, high-level results. "We've used OptiSITE® for over 10 years," said Tim Egger, APL Logistics' Director of Services Engineering. "When time is limited, especially with new customer proposals, OptiSITE® is still the best decision support tool for site location analysis. It can yield quality strategic results in a matter of hours instead of several weeks." Egger cited speed, ease of use, and quality results as OptiSITE®'s strengths. "New users can be trained quickly on OptiSITE® to produce meaningful results," Egger added.

APL Logistics has used OptiSITE® over the past 10 years to recommend site locations to numerous manufacturers in a variety of industries, including food, retail, and agriculture. APL Logistics also uses OptiSITE® to optimize clients' existing distribution networks based on demand, service requirements, cost, and location; and to identify new warehouses or distribution center locations. In addition, APL Logistics uses OptiSITE® to model "what-if" scenarios describing alternative distribution strategies for clients.

APL Logistics provides intercontinental, end-to-end logistics services. The company has some 4,500 employees in 115 cities and 52 countries. On February 1, 2001, APL Logistics purchased GATX Logistics, the second largest warehouse-based contract logistics company in the United States and one of the top logistics players throughout North and South America. APL Logistics operates approximately 21 million square feet of warehousing space throughout the Americas and is a sophisticated supply-chain-management company, providing integrated logistics solutions to many blue-chip companies, and with growing operations throughout Latin America.
